Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Senior HEP Utility Engineer (Supv), the Mechanical Engineer performs field and office mechanical engineering work.  Investigates and prepares reports on the cause of interruption in service for equipment at pumping plants and check sites.  Reviews plans and specifications, prepares tests, reports, and maintenance plans to gather data on equipment problems, and analyzes the data to form conclusions and recommendations.  Performs mechanical design work on small projects within the Field Division.  Prepares lists of mechanical equipment and material descriptions for the purchase of these items.  Inspects mechanical systems for adequacy and compliance with good engineering practices.  Driving to sites and plants required.

Must have a valid California Driver’s License.

We are seeking candidates with excellent organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written skills.  Candidate should possess thorough knowledge of all plant systems, must have field experience, Mechanical systems experience, have excellent communication skills, be computer proficient, able to complete work assignments in a safe, effective, and timely manner.  Experience in specifications and drawings and preparing and/or revising technical engineering reports.  Have the ability to follow directions with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, welding inspection experience, ability to interact professionally and cooperatively with the public and staff, and basic work safety practices.  Use independent judgment.

The field divisions are 100% office-centric, candidate must be willing to work in person, as this position is not eligible for telework.
