SENIOR LIBRARIAN – HEAD OF TECHNICAL SERVICES (L-6)

The Town of Cheshire seeks candidates to apply for the position of Senior Librarian – Head of Technical Services (L-6). This professional supervisory position is responsible for the management and operation of the Technical Services functions of the Materials Management Department. The successful candidate will supervise, train and evaluate library technical services staff in the acquisition, cataloging, and processing of items of all media types including downloadable materials. Work also involves database management, the preparation of narrative and statistical reports and materials selection. Must have exceptional organizational, customer service, team building, and management skills. They must demonstrate proficiency in the principles and practices of collection development, collection management, and cataloging specifically involving the creation, use and management of machine-readable bibliographic records according to nationally accepted technical standards. This position works closely with the Head of Circulation to coordinate the daily operations of both departments. This includes collection maintenance, streamlining the flow of items from the cataloging department to the shelf, and creating a shared vision for how both departments can better serve the public. Reporting to the Deputy Library Director, the Head of Technical Services serves on the senior management team and assists with developing and planning library services and policies. This is a 35-hour per week position which regularly includes daily service desk coverage and at least one evening per week and Saturdays in rotation.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have an MLS from an ALA accredited school of library/ information science and at least three years of relevant experience. Please see the attached job description for further details.
Rate: $40.44 per hour, 35 hour work week, with an excellent benefits package.
